Tiato in Santa Monica is preparing a Vietnamese take on Thanksgiving dinner, available to pre-order through the 19th. The centerpiece is an organic, free-range, brined turkey that’s seasoned with citrus, herbs, and five-spice powder, served with a gravy that’s thankfully generous on the garlic. (Baked ham and roasted Jidori chickens are also available.)
The all-important stuffing is prepared in one of three ways: turkey-apple sausage and leek, Mama’s sticky rice with shiitake mushrooms, Chinese sausage and chestnuts, or a gluten-free option with caramelized onions, herbs, and Vietnamese perilla mint.
Hidden within a list of fairly traditional Thanksgiving side dishes available to order, there are two which stick out as interesting. We’d give thanks for “An’s Famous Garlic Noodles” any day of the year, and the roasted Brussels sprouts are tossed with kale, almonds, sweet dates, pungent garlic, lime, and wasabi. They aren’t like any we’ve ever had at our turkey table.
