On July 18 only, the car service Uber is delivering ice cream to the doors of their loyal followers in Los Angeles, as well as 144 cities, in 38 countries, on 6 continents around the world. That’s a lot of ice cream.
Here’s how the sweet deal works: Download the Uber app for iPhone or Android, request the “Ice Cream” option via the app, and “if a truck is available, you and your friends will be enjoying sweet treats and Uber swag within minutes,” says Uber.
The ice cream trucks will be operating today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., so don’t give up after the first try.
“Demand for ice cream trucks will be very high and availability very limited. It may take multiple tries to find an available truck. Please be patient! We’ll be working all day to deliver as much ice cream as possible,” Uber said.
For the price of $25, you’ll get a five-pack of ice cream from All American Softy and B Sweet‘s delivered to you and your dairy-loving friends. No cash is required as the ice cream will be charged directly to a user’s Uber account.
In L.A., Uber has also teamed up with 6 L.A.-based street artists to deck out their ice cream trucks in custom art pieces, so keep an eye out for mobile art galleries. They’ll also be giving away these pieces through a twitter contest as the day progresses.
The ice cream on-demand feature is in its third year. In 2012 and 2013, the marketing ploy was so successful, the car service wasn’t able to fulfill all of its requests.
