Not to be outdone by its neighbor, UCLA, and their mind-blowing Food and Science lecture series, the Getty (well, really the Getty Villa) has announced that the next edition of its Celebrity Chef series will take place on April 4 with author Frances Mayes. You may remember Mayes from the slew of books that had you contemplating selling the house, shipping off the kids, and heading to Italy—namely, Under the Tuscan Sun, Bella Tuscany, and Every Day in Tuscany. Her latest work is the Tuscan Sun Cookbook—Mayes’ first cookbook—which tackles, as you might expect, Tuscan cuisine.
At the Getty Villa, Mayes will be on hand to sign copies of the book at 10:30 a.m., and afterward she’ll speak about her culinary adventures in Tuscany from 12 to 1 p.m. ‘Yes, yes, but we’re hungry,’ you say? No problem: a three-course prix-fixe lunch will take place in the Founder’s Room and a more casual lunch at the Villa café will both take place after the talk, both featuring recipes from the Tuscan Sun Cookbook.
The formal prix fixe lunch is $75 a person, or $90 with wine pairings. To make reservations for the prix fixe lunch visit www.getty.edu or call (310) 440-7300. Reservations for the café are not required. The book signing and lecture are gratis. Gratzi.
