Orange chicken—you know you love it. Get some for free, starting tomorrow when Panda Express launches their Orange Chicken Love Truck at Chinatown Summer Nights. This will be the first stop of a cross-country tour celebrating the dish that executive chef Andy Kao popularized in the late 8os.
From L.A. to New York City, orange chicken fans will get free samples (tomorrow night’s menu will include a special orange chicken and waffles dish while supplies last), the opportunity to strut down the orange carpet, and chill-out time in the Orange Chicken Lounge (we have a few fantasies about what that might include). Those who are really serious about the stuff can compete for the honorable title of #1 Orange Chicken Fan and a chance to win a year’s worth of orange chicken.
Panda Express will also be hosting a chef’s challenge, featuring Greg Dulan (Dulans on Crenshaw), Lupe Liam (Hop Woo), Natalie Curie (El Conralense), and Viet Cuong (Sup Noodle Bar), to see who can make the tastiest, most innovate new orange chicken dish. The judging panel is no joke—Kao, Andy Ricker (Pok Pok), Russ Parsons (LA Times) and Evan Kleiman (KCRW) will be choosing the winner, who will score $1,000 for his/her charity of choice.
Panda Express’ Orange Chicken Love Truck will park at Chung King Court, 961 N. Hill Street, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 tomorrow, August 22. Chef’s challenge starts at 6. If you want to see the tour’s full itinerary or get your hands on some orange chicken swag, check out OrangeChickenLove.com
