This week, as part of an annual tradition, Beck’s beer invited artists to design a label for their bottles. Each artist is given a template and instructions to create a piece of original artwork, which Beck’s then plasters on 3.2 million bottles. That’s a lot of art. Apparently, it works out to be 1.25 million square feet of artistic real estate.
Past years’ participants have included famous names like Yoko Ono, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, and Andy Warhol. This year, The Date Farmers, Kid Cudi, Mark Ecko, Willis Earl Beal, and the TM Sisters each contributed a label.
But nationally distributed brews like Beck’s aren’t the only breweries with design in mind when it’s time to come up with a new label. Up above, check out some of L.A.’s own iconic beer art.
