For those who’ve been tracking the progress of Ricardo Zarate’s new restaurant, Picca, with the intensity of lion stalking a wounded gazelle, we’re happy to report that a taste of Zarate’s signature Peruvian cuisine will be available sooner than expected. Picca’s grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, June 25, but it’s opening its doors early thanks to Test Kitchen, the former Zarate-operated pop-up restaurant (now occupied by Sotto) just downstairs. Nominal confusion aside, the event will serve as a soft opening for the restaurant, one that will feature a special family-style menu (prix-fixe $40 per person) that will highlight some of Zarate’s new creations. These include a filet mignon brushed with uni butter and garlic chips, Santa Barbara spot prawns with lemongrass-yuzu-kosho pesto, and a seafood-studded Peruvian paella. Reservations are available between 6-10 p.m. on both Thursday June 23 and Friday June 24.
