Take-Out Tip of the Day: RiceBox in Chinatown Is Doing a Duck Dinner To Go

The days and weeks are blurring together, so perhaps a duck feast is in order to make the weekend feel unique. RiceBox, the beloved downtown Cantonese barbecue joint, is offering a whole roasted duck on Saturdays only. This Saturday’s duck sold out on Tuesday, but you can preorder for next Saturday now. For $45, you get the bird, jasmine rice, a side of Chinese broccoli, and some house-made plum chutney sauce. The duck is made according to the recipe of Ricebox co-owner Lydia Lee’s grandfather.

“We marinate the duck for one day,” explains Lee, who operates the restaurant with her chef husband Leo Lee. “We then blanch the skin in honey citrus water so the skin can tighten up. We hang dry in the fridge for three days and slow roast it the day of.”
