Take-Out Tip of the Day: Bar Restaurant Is Packing Market Boxes with Whole Chickens and Wine

Already low on essential provisions like vegetables, milk, and wine? Head to Bar Restaurant, the “neo-bistro”  from restaurateur Jeff Ellermeyer, chef Douglas Rankin (who worked for Ludo Lefebvre for years), and manager and beverage director Pierluc Dallaire, one of our favorite new spots in the city.

‪The Silver Lake restaurant is offering robust market boxes with a whole chicken, rainbow trout fillets or tofu, along with fresh veggies, herbs, and pasta or rice. Boxes start at $60 without wine or $75 with a bottle (better value!) and can be picked up at from the restaurant parking lot. Pantry provisions like milk and eggs, along with the restaurant’s acclaimed mushroom French onion soup, are also available, as are tons of interesting wines by the bottle. There’s also a daily family meal on offer—if it involves the curly fries, don’t miss it.

‪Dallaire says he’s been drinking Feints from Ruth Lewandowski, which they offer for $20.
‪“It’s a light and refreshing red that is just delicious and made by my friend Evan [Lewandowski],” he says. “Do everything to support small business!”
