Just days after learning that Jin Patisserie would be closing (nowhere near enough time to recover from such terrible news), we just got word in our inboxes that John Sedlar and Bill Chait’s famed Playa will also be shutting its doors:
“It is with bittersweet sentiment that Playa will host its last service this Wednesday, March 6th. While the restaurant has been critically successful and John has tremendously enjoyed the creative process of introducing Baja and Mexi-China inspired menus to Angelenos, the concept has not met the high expectations John and Bill set for it when opening two years ago. With that in mind, they’ll be taking a few weeks to close and retool before reopening with something entirely new and very exciting in the space. We’d like to extend our gratitude to each and every one of our friends, colleagues and loyal diners for their endless support these past two years.
Please join us on Wednesday, March 6th from 6p-10p to help us wish Playa a fond farewell, with cocktail specials and a complimentary celebratory toast, as well as to cheer Playa Chef de Cuisine Kevin Kuzande’s recent Zagat ’30 Under 30′ honor. Playa’s full menu will be available through Wednesday.”
Chef John Sedlar will be spending more of his time downtown at Rivera, where we’re told some of the favorite dishes from Playa—as well as produce from its “Cielo Verde” rooftop garden—will make appearances on the menu.
