Smoke Alarm: Today Is Another Chance to Eat Aaron Franklin’s BBQ

The Texas smoked-meat master and fellow brisket pro Adam Perry Lang will start serving Downtown at 6 p.m.

Look, this isn’t going to be easy—and why aren’t you already in line?!—but think of it this way: You could travel all the way to Austin for a taste of Aaron Franklin’s barbecue and still have to spend hours waiting in line. (There are many who have said that Franklin’s smoked meat is life-changing, and even Budweiser-loving culinary luminary David Chang recently tweeted after a meal there: “@FranklinBbq rules. One of the great meals you can have anywhere” and then, “Eating @FranklinBbq makes me feel like I made all the wrong career choices.”)

So, if you missed out on a getting a reservation at Franklin’s pop-up at Animal next week with fellow barbecue ace Adam Perry Lang (plus some dudes named Roy Choi, Jon Favreau, Jon Shook, and Vinny Dotolo), you’ve got another chance to try his food this evening.

Pitmasters Franklin and Lang will be Downtown at Nick’s Cafe this evening, serving a cash-only, tax-included $50 meal of sliced Creekstone Farms prime brisket, sliced Niman Ranch pork shoulder, barbecued linguica, beans, cole slaw, pickles, onions, sliced bread, and water. Lang’s Instagram post about the dinner reveals that it will start being served at 6 p.m. It’s first-come, first-serve, with a limit of two orders per person. And there’s only enough food for 80 orders. Good luck, everyone.
