Barring the unforeseen—and please, please don’t let there be anything unforeseen—the newest Salt & Straw will debut this week at 8949 Santa Monica Boulevard, at the corner of Santa Monica and Robertson right across the street from Pump. Doors are expected to open to the public on Friday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. A formal announcement will be made on Tuesday.
The Portland import has become a local favorite since it arrived with its own brand of delicious flavors and social awareness in 2014. The WeHo location will be head ice cream maker Tyler Malek and co-founder Kim Malek’s fifth in L.A. To introduce itself to the neighborhood, Salt & Straw will host pre-opening fundraisers for The Trevor Project with an ice cream truck and pop-up station this week.
- Tuesday (2/14) and Wednesday (2/15), the truck will be at 8921 Santa Monica Blvd. from 7–10 p.m. selling $1 scoops
- Thursday (2/16) a pop-up station will be at Guisados (8935 Santa Monica Blvd.) from 6–9 p.m.
Full and partial proceeds, respectively, will go toward crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ youth.
The new store will retain the original Larchmont location’s look and feel.
Hours will be 11-11 daily.
