Here at Los Angeles magazine we are lucky enough to have a fleet of food trucks waiting to feed us just outside our Miracle Mile offices. Here we highlight the city’s grub on wheels.
The Truck: Somethin’ About Frootz, covered in an array of sticky notes hand-written by satisfied sippers.
The Lowdown: The menu offers a variety of homemade drinks blended with mostly raw ingredients and fresh fruit. Each drink can be customized to fit dietary needs and restrictions. They also have a small menu of vegan dishes.
The Peeps: A group of Sri Lankan chefs that wanted to bring the “paradise” of Sri Lankan flavors to L.A.
The Loot: Cash and cards accepted.
The Goods: The menu offers chilled fruit smoothies, fresh juices, and decadent milkshakes, which all sound perfect for a hot summer day. There are smoothies like mango madness ($5.75) and cool coconut craze ($5), juices like avocado paradise ($6) and watermelon wonderland ($6), and a slew of shakes including the one that took our breath away: Twix ($6), which comes with a full Twix candy bar and swirls of caramel.
The Verdict: Although the Twix creation was calling our name, we thought it best to choose something that could maybe provide a little hydration: the cool coconut craze. The smooth slush was countered by shards of fresh coconut and sweet crystals of frozen coconut. Heavier than your standard beverage, this “drink” could be considered more of a dessert. It was a killer treat, but we will definitely head back to try something lighter—the watermelon juice, maybe?
