Here’s the Paperwork to Prove it: PETA *is* Suing Hot’s Kitchen for Serving Foie Gras


Last week, we reported that animal rights group PETA is suing Hot’s Kitchen in Hermosa Beach for continuing to serve foie gras—duck or goose liver that’s been fattened by force-feeding—despite the statewide ban on it that was enacted this past July.

Since then, a protest was staged by PETA outside the restaurant on Friday, and a statement was issued from Hot’s Kitchen chef Sean Chaney (via Eater LA): 

“My team and I have consulted [sic.], and, as of 5 p.m. yesterday, Hot’s has not been legally served with any lawsuit. Therefore, we cannot responsibly comment. Publicity stunts such as the filing of an outrageous, baseless lawsuit, followed by the issuance of press releases are nothing more than an attempt to exploit the media by stoking controversial flames and are designed to line the pockets of profiteers. If and when Hot’s is legally served, we will be happy to provide a statement that speaks to the allegations after we have had an opportunity to review the complaint. Hot’s stands by its previous statement that foie gras can be made humanely; and we continue to provide our customers with wholesome, humane animal products.”

Per PETA Media Coordinator Kaitlynn Kelly: “Our lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on November 28, but it will take some time for the sheriff to serve it.” Until that happens, we’ve got a link to a copy of the lawsuit for your viewing pleasure (via
