Last night Michael Voltaggio and the team at Ink. hosted a collaborative dinner to benefit the James Beard Foundation. The chefs? Oh, nobody serious—only Nancy Silverton (Mozza), Matt Molina (Osteria Mozza), Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo (Animal, Son of A Gun), Jordan Kahn (Red Medicine), Jeremy Fox (Old Soul), plus the hosts. The dinner—a pre-paid $200 a pop including tax, tip, and wine pairings—drew a packed-house crowd that included actor Seth Rogan, Umami’s Adam Fleischman, plus a slew of restaurant investor and Hollywood types. The chefs cooked alongside each other calmly—even joking together—in full view of the dining room. Silverton explained the easygoing vibe by giving kudos to the staggered reservations system, as opposed to the usual “everyone sit down at once” routine at these kinds of events. As there were no media comps (I’m calling it an early Hanukkah gift to myself), I also noticed a particular lack of giant cameras on tables. Armed with my trusty phone, I still managed to document (if fuzzily) what ended up being one memorable meal.
