Update: Looks like despite running a soft opening this week, Blue Cow had pushed their opening to sometime late next week. Shucks.
Are we excited for the opening of California Plaza’s Blue Cow Kitchen & Bar this Thursday? Excited might be an understatement.
We first previewed the restaurant in our January issue, and now the time has come for Mario Del Pero and Ellen Chen, the duo behind Mendocino farms, to open the doors of their downtown restaurant. You can check out the menu here, which includes curious dishes like “Cheetoh” chicharrones, pickled eggs with ham, vegan tortas, homemade merguez sausage, and pork green chili.
What really has us tickled pink is the cocktail program organized by Harvard & Stone drink master Steve Livigni, who has already tweeted about his plans for barrel-aged cocktails and other delights including, “boozy root beer floats, lambic cherry rickys, pecan old fashions, fernet on tap, cow staring contests.”
Our guess is that imbibing too many of those tasty drinks and ending up in a cow staring is a distinct possibility.
