Mari Vanna: a Russian Oasis on Melrose Place

The first full look inside West Hollywood’s newest restaurant.

Across the street from high-end Italian chain Fig & Olive comes Mari Vanna, a multi-unit Russian concept set to open on Melrose Place this upcoming Tuesday, June 25. It’s a big new reveal for the space, which for many years housed Bastide.

So what’s in store at Mari Vanna? Russian hospitality group Ginza Project has outfitted the interior in a style similar to a French country garden. Sun-bleached woods, a stone hearth, topiaries, and antiques grace the space. The multi-room layout allows for different areas to be closed off for private events at a moment’s notice. A 20-seat bar is new to the space, as is a wine lounge. As in past itinerations of the space, the patio is comfortable and secluded from the street.

The restaurant’s name comes from a Slavic legend. Mari Vanna was a fairytale grandmother who welcomed hungry travelers into her home for a home-cooked meal.

A release offers glimpses at the menu, which will feature traditional Russian dishes—think: blinis and pelmeni—alongside casual California fare like dragon fruit carpaccio with seafood salad and filet mignonette steak with watermelon. The cocktail list includes the Mors, a popular Russian berry-based beverage.

Owner Tatiana Brunetti is most excited about the restaurant’s VIP keys. Mari Vanna will be closed on Mondays, but VIP members with actual keys to the front door will still be able to enter the restaurant. The keys will be distributed to guests during the restaurant’s first month of business.

Mari Vanna will serve lunch and dinner daily, starting at 11 a.m. The bar will be open each night until 2 a.m. Vanna, 8475 Melrose Pl, West Hollywood, (323) 655-1977,
