The 5th Annual Good Food Pie Contest at LACMA – 9/7
It’s back! KCRW’s Good Food is taking over the LACMA lawns for an epic pie contest. Good Food host Evan Kleiman presides over the festivities, which include a free pie tasting for the public. This year’s celebrity judge lineup includes Short Cake’s Hourie Sahakian, the Hot Knives, the L.A. Times’ Jonathan Gold, and our own pie-enthusiast, Elina Shatkin. Pie submissions are now closed, but you can come taste the upper crust from 2 to 4 p.m. Wear an apron and get free admission to LACMA for the day. More information.

L.A. Picnic Meals on Wheels Fundraiser – 9/7
Chefs Josef Centeno, Neal Fraser, Michael Voltaggio, and Kris Morningstar are among the L.A. chefs cooking a picnic-style lunch to benefit St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, which delivers food to more than 4,000 needy and housebound people daily. The outdoor event, which takes place at the Hacienda at the Original Farmers Market from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., will take over an acre of grassy lawns with food, drink, live entertainment, and more. Michael Voltaggio Cooking Demo at UAKC – 9/7
Ink. honcho and Top Chef champion Michael Voltaggio will be at the Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center from noon to 4 p.m. showing off his culinary wizardry and signing copies of his cookbook. The promotional event will feature cocktails, wine, hors d’oeuvres, and other goodies. More information.

Institute of Domestic Technology Reuben Sandwich Workshop – 9/8
Learn how to make every element in the classic reuben sandwich (with the exception of Swiss cheese), including pastrami, rye bread, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing in this four-hour class at the historic Greystone Mansion. Cast Iron Gourmet’s Rashida Purifoy will instruct the  hands-on workshop, which ends with the students devouring the fruits of their labor. More information.

Gorge One Year Anniversary Dinner – 9/10
Our favorite little French charcuterie restaurant is celebrating one year of business on the Sunset Strip with a special anniversary dinner. Co-owners and chefs Elia Aboumrad and Uyen Nguyen will prepare three-courses of meaty French classics for $55, or $85 with wine pairings by master sommelier Darius Allyn. Reservations required. Almanac Beer Dinner at Cooks County — 9/10
The San Francisco “Farm to Bottle” brewery Almanac is taking over the menu at Cooks County this Tuesday for the fifth in the restaurant’s California Craft Beer & Food Festival dinners. Almanac sources all of its ingredients from Northern California farms, which falls right in line with the philosophy of chefs Daniel Mattern and Roxana Jullapat.
