L.A. Gets an Exclusive Preview of Padma’s Paella

You’ll need a membership card to try the Top Chef host’s rice dish

Want to be one of the first people to eat Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi’s new paella dish? You’ll have to visit Costco.

Lakshmi has just unveiled Padma’s Easy Exotic Spanish Paella, a frozen meal that’s available for preview in the Los Angeles area only. It’s just $13.99 for four 13-ounce portions (packaged together in one large bag), but you’ll, of course, need a Costco membership. Or you could try your luck requesting it on Instacart, which delivers promptly from Costco–no membership required, but there’s a delivery fee and Instacart often charges slightly higher prices than stores do.

Lakshmi, who once lived in Spain and later returned and cooked paella in a 4-foot cazuela on the beach when she filmed a Planet Food special about Southern Spain, has created a one-dish meal for Costco with rice, shrimp, chicken, chorizo, red and green peppers, fire-roasted tomatoes, peas, garlic, and saffron.

Lakshmi plans to expand her frozen rice meals nationwide in the near future and will be debuting three other dishes along with organic plain rices. It’s all part of Padma’s Easy Exotic collection, which also includes kitchen and entertaining items available at Target.com, Kohls.com, NeimanMarcus.com, and Meijer stores.

Plus, there’s The Padma Collection of luxury tableware, inspired by Lakshmi’s globetrotting. You can find that at Bloomingdale’s and NeimanMarcus.com, and soon at Bed Bath & Beyond.

The latest season of Top Chef concludes on February 11, so there’s still time for fans to create their own Padma pad where they can serve Padma paella on Padma plates during their viewing party. It’s a different kind of Quickfire Challenge.
