Los Angeles Magazine is seeking a full-time Associate Editor who will focus on food and dining across the city. This job is ideal for an ambitious junior editor who’s looking for opportunity to toggle between online and in print, short-form and long-form, editing and writing.
This associate editor will assist the Dine Editor in her duties overseeing the Eat section in Los Angeles magazine’s front of the book, including writing and editing stories, as well as managing the Dine Listings in the back of the book. The associate editor’s primary daily duty will be to help manage all editorial aspects of the Digest and Liquid LA blogs. That includes fielding ideas, editing writers, formatting posts, securing photos, as well as writing engaging, original posts on tight deadlines. In addition, the associate editor will assist the Dine Editor in overseeing Los Angeles’ award-winning food-focused service packages, including our annual Food Lovers’ Guide and Best New Restaurants.
We’re looking for someone who is hungry in every way. The ideal candidate is an idea machine who can’t help but seek out the most compelling stories in food and drink. They should be as enthusiastic about Pok Pok Phat Thai and a new vampiros stand as they are about a perfect Suzanne Goin salad and the heritage of Musso & Frank. They should be eager to work alongside James Beard Award- and National Magazine Award-winning editors, with the expectation that they will eventually learn to write and edit features. And they should be interested in the city as a whole. We’re a small team, and the right dedicated, hardworking person will have opportunities to participate in every area of the magazine.
As for education and experience? At least three years’ writing and editing experience are a must, including familiarity with cultivating writers, assigning stories, and honing pieces. Must have two years blogging experience and be enthusiastically engaged with L.A.’s vibrant food scene.
