Happenings: Beer Me


Two big beer events happening in the next few weeks. Get ‘em while they’re cold.

1. On July 30, Whole Foods Pasadena (Arroyo) is bringing in Rick Lovett, the brewmaster from Indian Wells Brewing Company up in Inyokern, CA (outside of Bakersfield), for a five-course beer paring dinner, featuring a dessert called “beeramisu.” Mmmm….beeramisu.

The menu:

Course One
micro greens / shaved manchego cheese / truffle oil // paired with mojave red

Course Two
lump crab cake / sun-dried tomato aïoli // paired with mojave gold
vegetarian option | quinoa cake

Course Three
chipotle carnitas tamale / frijoles oaxaqueños / "curtido" cabbage slaw // paired with orange blossom amber lager
vegetarian option | fire roasted chipotle corn tamale

Course Four
chicken tikka masala / rice pulao / tomato chutney // paired with amnesia ipa
vegetarian option | vegetable tikka masala

Course Five
"beeramisu" // made with and paired with lobotomy bock

2. On August 2, the Pine Meadows lawn of the Autry National Center will be taken over by the first annual Brew Ha Ha—a festival, silent auction and beer tasting benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Breweries include BJ’s Restaurant and Brew House, Stone Brewing Co., Sam Adams, and Sierra Nevada. Plus, you can “savor great cuisine from several of Los Angeles’ most popular restaurants.” Tickets are $50. Get them online at http://losangeles.cff.org/brewhawhaw, or on the day of the event.
