It’s one thing to snag a complimentary coffee from the ’bucks now and again, but this is big. Just in from LAMILL:
LAMILL COFFEE BOUTIQUE SAYS
THANK YOU WITH FREE COFFEE DAY
LAMILL Coffee Boutique celebrates six months in Silver Lake with Free Coffee Day on Tuesday, June 24. “We are very grateful for the outpouring of support we have received from the Silver Lake neighborhood since we opened in January,” owner Craig Min says, “and this is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to the community.”
LAMILL will be pouring coffee made from beans grown in a special region of Rwanda at the Bufcafe Mill, which is nestled in the lush, green mountains of this small African country near the equator. Here the beans are processed, washed and dried at an elevation of about 4,500 feet, an altitude and climate perfect for maintaining the proper moisture and stability of the beans for optimum coffee taste. “Because of its unique geographical location,” Min says, “we find that coffee imported from Rwanda is among the richest, most flavorful coffee to be found in the world.” Only 300 bags of coffee are available each year from this Mill.
LAMILL will also be hosting a charity, Bikes to Rwanda, in support of the coffee growing communities in the country. Coffee production is the main crop grown in Rwanda, and it nearly ceased after 1994 due to a protracted civil war in the region. As production started up again a few years ago, growers were asked by visiting, grateful coffee purveyors what was needed most to help their communities recover, and the answer was “bicycles.” LAMILL Coffee joins other coffee communities throughout the USA in supporting this worthwhile charity by giving a percentage of the proceeds LAMILL earns on Free Coffee Day to provide bicycles to the hardworking residents of coffee mills throughout Rwanda. A representative of Bikes to Rwanda will be on hand at LAMILL Coffee Boutique throughout the day to answer questions and discuss how the program is transforming the Rwandan growing communities.
Other festivities on Free Coffee Day will include an opportunity to “Meet the Roasters,” a special area where visitors will be able to meet with some of LAMILL’s coffee roasters, taste samples and learn some of LAMILL’s trade secrets that make it one of the top coffee roasters in the country. Also featured with be an area to “Talk About Tea,” where guests can learn more about LAMILL’s exclusive tea company, Sungarden Specialty Tea. “We also want to be sure everyone visits our adjacent Retail Store, especially to see our unique, new Barista Room,” Min adds, “now open for private parties, special meetings and dessert tastings.”
Regular customers and new visitors alike will still be able to enjoy LAMILL’s full menu of specialty drinks and gourmet food. “If you’re hooked on our Liquid Tiramisu or can’t live without the Asian BLT Pork Belly Sandwich, don’t worry – all of our regular menu items will be available, as usual,” Min promises, “with portions of the proceeds going to Bikes to Rwanda.”
LAMILL Coffee Boutique will celebrate Free Coffee Day all day on Tuesday, June 24, from 7:00 am until closing at 10:00 pm.
The boutique is located in Silver Lake at 1636 Silver Lake Boulevard.
Six-months a bit premature for celebrations? Maybe. But hey, we aren’t complaining.
