Raise your stein for this one, folks. Chef Gary Robbins of the recently shuttered Moko has popped up at the Korean-German gastropub Biergarten this weekend to serve his take on Bavarian dishes such as schnitzel, weisswurst, and crispy potato pancakes.
With fall in full swing there are several Oktoberfest events occuring throughout the city (including the massive beer tents in Torrance’s Alpine Village), but Biergarten appears to be serving up some of the most satisfying Germanic grub to be had. Our favorite was the Niman Ranch schnitzel burger, a dense patty of ground veal fried crisp on the exterior and painted with a garlicky remoulade and served on a toasted potato buns.
Of course, there is a generous selection of German brews as well, including Hacker Schorr, Spaten and Franiskaner. While the food might be worthy on it’s own, just remeber that the true reason for the season is in your glass.
