A day in the life of the Valleybrink Road owner and executive chef
1255

There’s a reason Barrett Prendergrast’s gorgeous food is served on the most fashionable tables around town: It tastes every bit as good as it looks. Here, the owner and executive chef of Valleybrink Road shares what a typical day looks like for L.A.’s culinary “it” girl:

6 a.m. Rise and shine with a quick breakfast of lemon water, avocado toast, and fresh berries from the Hollywood Farmers Market.

6:45 a.m. Head to the Original Los Angeles Flower Market to buy hyacinths, kale, and garden roses for gift boxes. On weekends I’m catering, but during the week I’m mostly assembling and delivering custom gift boxes that are loaded with small-batch treats.

8:30 a.m. Take a morning walk around Atwater with my husband, André Vippoli, and our rescue dog, Frankie.

11:30 a.m. Meet Yasmine Khatib of Yasmine Floral Design at Sqirl to discuss our upcoming holiday pop-up at Individual Medley. I’ll make organic toffee or parmesan-fennel shortbread.

1:30 p.m. Pick up lamb chops at McCall’s Meat & Fish for tomorrow night’s dinner party.

2 p.m. Shoot recipes for the Web site in the afternoon, when the natural light is at its best. Today it’s a new salad.

4:30 p.m. Head to the South Pasadena Farmers Market. I love that the market is at night—it’s such a happy place, with families and kids.

7 p.m. Meet André at Silverlake Wine for wine tasting and Let’s Be Frank hot dogs. I eat two. 9 p.m. Hop into bed to watch The Mind of a Chef, and it’s lights out by 10
