Ugh, Black Friday. You’re tired of turkey, tired of shopping, and tired of talking about turkey and shopping. The holidays are already a drag, and the season technically just began. The only thing to do is take solace in a plate of Kung Pao chicken and drink beer, and then decide never to step in another mall again. That’s the way chef Louis Tikaram would handle it. He’s cooking a Chinese banquet-inspired feast full of classic wok-tossed dishes at E.P. & L.P. on Friday, November 27, and the menu is full of door-busting Black Friday prices.
This is not authentic, regional Chinese cuisine of the SGV. Instead it’s Tikaram’s take on classic Chinese take-out dishes, a West Hollywood version on beef and broccoli, honey-walnut shrimp, Kung Pao chicken, and shrimp fried rice. This is non-thinking food, comfort food at its finest; the kind of thing you want after a long day of fighting people for the best deals on flat-screen TVs and racking up credit-card points. The fact that all the dishes are priced around $3-$19 is that much sweeter. Tsingtao is only $4 all night long, too.
The menu is available in the main restaurant, with other specials—duck bao, prawn crackers and more—offered on the L.P. rooftop. The scene up there might be a little crazy on a holiday weekend Friday night, but the scenery is aces.
