Feed Your Inner Bacchus: Getty Villa Hosts Roman Dinner

When in L.A. do as the Romans do. In this case, we suggest eating like them. In a interesting combination of food and history the Getty Villa will feature a special dinner co-hosted by food historian Andrew Dalby and Chef Sally Grainger on July 14th and 15th from 7-10pm. Professor Dalby will give a brief lecture entitled “Dining with Caesar: Food and Power in Ancient Rome” dealing with the eating habits and customs of the famed conquerors. Afterwards, guests will enjoy a four-course dinner prepared by Chef Sally Grainger with many of the dishes based on research of the Apicius, the only surviving ancient Roman cookbook. The menu includes such Roman feast favorites as oysters in oenogarum sauce, calf’s kidney stuffed with fennel, and a roast suckling pig. Tickets are $75 per person, with wine included.
