The Corner Door, which opened on Washington Boulevard in Culver City just about a year ago, has shuffled chefs. In place of opening chef Luke Reyes, the restaurant has installed Kyle Schutte.
Schutte’s most recent appointment was at Marina del Rey’s short-lived Vu Restaurant. There, he was known for his playful experiments with seafood. At The Corner Door—which has, up until this point, served a gastropub-style menu—Schutte wants to bring in an element of surprise.
He’s added a cranberry and red onion jam to The Corner Door’s burger. House-made corn agnolotti riff on Mexican corn on the cob. The pasta is smoky thanks to some brunt Fresno chilis; candied lime and a splash of tequila finish the dish off.
Which is a great segue into what The Corner Door has been best known for up to this point: its cocktails. Thanks to Beau du Bois, the bar program at The Corner Door remains one of this city’s strongest. Now it’s time to go back and taste the food with those happy hour drinks.
