The yolk porn-making food truck that attracted its cult following after moving into that Instagrammable outpost in Grand Central Market is finally going to have a standalone restaurant. And it’s going to be in sunny Venice Beach, just two blocks from the iconic sign hanging over Windward Avenue. So grab a few of Eggslut’s drippy breakfast sandwiches, one of those delicious coddled egg and potato puree sundaes, and soak up some rays (then, you know, wash all that yolk off your face in the ocean or something).
“It needed an iconic location that would reflect them as a brand,” explains Marc Finkel, managing director of the real estate firm responsible for closing the deal. “The intersection of Windward and Pacific is as raw and authentic as Venice Beach gets, and eggslut was drawn to the space because of its underlying potential and grittiness that would allow the eatery to grow with the community organically.”
This has been a busy time for chef Alvin Cailan and the rest of his sandwich slinging crew: Less than a week ago, Eater Vegas announced that Eggslut would be opening another location inside the Cosmopolitan. The new Venice location might be a bit conflicting for Cailan, who previously told Eater, “I’m not a strong believer in multiple locations, but if there’s a way I can control the prep and be able to make sure that the food tastes the same, I’ll do it.” Maybe he figured the magic formula. Only time and thousands of Instagram photos will tell.
