The Venice location of fusion taco restaurant Komodo, an offshoot of a popular food truck, is celebrating its first anniversary with dollar tacos this weekend.
Executive chef Erwin Tjahyadi (yes, the man behind the Phorrito) will offer his entire “classics” menu, 12 different kinds of tacos, for a dollar each on Saturday and Sunday. What makes this a truly good opportunity to sample his loosely Mexican, Asian, and even Italian and cheeseburger tacos (all usually $3) is that there’s a 10-taco limit per person, which is probably at least five tacos more than most hungry diners can finish.
Choose from favorites like the Komodo 2.0 with seared top sirloin steak, jalapeno aioli, and Southwest corn salad; the Blazin’ Shrimp with spicy Singaporean-style shrimp, sour cream salad, and cilantro; the Roma with seared Italian sausage, olives, tomatoes, red onion, red bell pepper, parmesan cheese, and romesco sauce; or the Burgerrito, a deconstructed cheeseburger taco with Angus ground beef, Thousand Island dressing, relish, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, red onion, and sesame seeds.
Even in ultra-diverse L.A., this is about as cheap as you can go around the world without getting up from your seat.
