Chef at the Million Dollar Theatre with Roy Choi and Evan Kleiman — 6/19
Hosted by Zócalo and KCRW, “My Favorite Movie” is a new film series that asks prominent Angelenos to discuss the flicks they love. This Thursday the Million Dollar Theatre will show Jon Favreau’s new movie, Chef, and Roy Choi will chat post-film with KCRW’s Evan Kleiman (Good Food) about what the movie means to him. Bartender Competition at Willie Jane — 6/19
At Willie Jane’s monthly “Sling Off” event, local mixologists are challenged to create drinks from four mystery ingredients. This Thursday bar pros Derrick Bass and Aiden Demarest battle it out, creating innovative libations featuring newcomer rum brand Selvarey. For $15 you can join in and help judge the winning cocktail. More information.

Japanese Gourmet Fair at Mitsuwa Marketplace — 6/19-22
The largest Japanese grocery chain in the U.S, Mitsuwa Marketplace, is throwing its annual Japanese Gourmet Fair at its Torrance location this Thursday (today!) through Sunday. The grub at the top of our list? Fresh crab bento with salmon roe from Hokkaido and beef tongue shio (salt) ramen from Tokyo favorite, Kizo. More information

DTLA Night Market — 6/20-21 
From boba tea and pork buns to okonomiyaki (a Japanese savory pancake) and banh xeo (a sort of Vietnamese fried taco), the food lineup at this weekend’s Downtown L.A. Night Market includes both familiar favorites and more traditional, hard-to-find Asian bites. Tickets are $7 presale and $10 at the door. More information.

Calabasas Malibu Wine & Food Festival — 6/20-21
The 8th annual Calabasas Malibu Wine & Food festival at the Calabasas Country Club showcases more than 20 wineries and 30 participating restaurants, including Pacific Dining Car, Girasol, and Pinks. Proceeds go to Rock Against Trafficking. Tickets start at $150. More information.

“Crazy Pyes” Food Truck Tour — 6/20-22
Even if you don’t watch Orange is the New Black, you’ll likely recognize inmate Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren (played by Uzo Aduba), whose photo has been plastered all over L.A. to announce the Season 2 launch on Netflix. Inspired by her catchphrase “I threw my pie for you,” Netflix is hosting a Crazy Pyes food truck tour that kicks off this weekend in L.A. Check the @OITNB Twitter feed for location updates and enjoy some free (!) fruit pies and soft-serve. More information.

Urban Harvester Presents “An Evening At Fresco” Fundraiser — 6/21
Urban Harvester is a small grassroots organization that connects local agencies feeding the hungry with surplus food from grocery stores and restaurants. This Saturday, Urban Harvester is hosting An Evening At Fresco from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Fresco Community Market. The event includes food, beers and wines, and a unique opportunity to help address the issues of food waste and hunger throughout Southern California. Tickets cost $40 per person. More information

Marcel Vigneron’s Pop-Up At Sushi Roku Hollywood — 6/24 
Top Chef alum Marcel Vigneron joins forces with Sushi Roku’s executive chef Jiro Kobayashi for a $65 six-course prix-fixe meal that combines traditional Japanese cuisine with modern international flavors. In addition, Sara Variel (RivaBella) is on pastry duty and mixologist Aaron Alvarez (Soho House, Plan Check) is on drinks. More information.
