Craftsman Cask at the York

I stopped by the York last night in Highland Park and noticed they’ve added cask-conditioned beer, or real ales into the mix. (Cask conditioned are fermented traditionally, which means they’re unpasteurized and not hooked up to an external C02 container—for centuries, a beer’s carbonation came from the natural fermentation process.)
Last night, the York was pouring the Poppyfield Pale Ale from Craftsman Brewery in Pasadena, and serving it at the recommended 55 degrees (a detail I would have appreciated a little more had it not been 90 degrees outside at 8 p.m.). The nearby Verdugo Bar, Rock Bottom in Long Beach, and the Daily Pint in Santa Monica have been pouring cask-conditioned beers for a while, but this is the first time I’ve run into a Craftsman cask anywhere. The York plans to rotate casks regularly. I’ll be back to check out what’s next.
