Michael’s Pizzeria of Long Beach was recently awarded an important distinction by the local guidebook and restaurant review source, Zagat. This year, the mild-mannered pizzeria was named best pizza place in the country. While New Yorkers were busy scratching their heads about the news, owner Michael Dene was already making his next move. This upcoming December 15, Dene and his partners in Michael’s Restaurant Group open Chianina, a boutique steakhouse concept.
Named for the breed of cattle that the company is raising specifically in preparation for the new restaurant, Chianina’s menu will feature a wide range of cuts, all butchered in-house.
The rendering, up above, is the first look inside what is being described as a “boutique” steakhouse. With just over 80 seats, the dark wood interior and meaty hues will indeed keep the space feeling cozy. A full bar, plenty of wines by the glass, and the restaurant’s own breed of cattle (Chianina) may be a very welcome addition to Long Beach’s dining scene.
