The Christmas season can conjure up idyllic images of holiday joy from sleigh rides to snowmen (do you wanna build one?). But the kind I like the most are food-related ones. Egg nog, plum pudding, or Christmas ham brings out the dining Dickens in me each and every Yuletide.
By far the most evocative of all Christmas food are chestnuts, preferably found roasting on an open fire. It’s fairly easy to spot them in New York, but since we’re here in L.A., finding freshly roasted chestnuts is not a simple thing — unless you’re at Mr. C Hotel in Beverly Hills.
From now until the end of December, the Lobby Lounge Bar at Mr. C Beverly Hills is offering vin brulé (mulled wine) with a small bowl of roasted chestnuts for $14. Guests can enjoy these holiday treats while lounging on couches in the lobby or waiting for their table at the Restaurant at Mr. C. Either way, here is one of the rare places in L.A. where you can experience the opening line of “The Christmas Song.”
While you’re there, you might as well check out Mr. C’s holiday menu. For Christmas Eve starters, a trio of marinated salmon, octopus, and tuna tartar isn’t quite the Feast of the Seven Fishes, but add the black squid-ink risotto alla Cipriani and you’re getting closer.
The C in Mr. C normally stands for Cipriani, but this time of year you can sub in Christmas.
