Jenn Louis, co-owner and executive chef at Portland’s Lincoln and Sunshine Tavern restaurants, will be celebrating the release of her new book Pasta by Hand (currently available) in L.A. next week. To mark the occasion, the James Beard Awards-nominated chef and Top Chef Masters contender will be hosting two meals on Sunday, May 24—brunch at Union Restaurant in Pasadena and Sunday Supper at Lucques—using recipes featured in the book.
A collaboration with chef Bruce Kalman, Louis’ brunch, which will feature wine pairings from Union wine director George Pitsironis, will include an antipasti plate, plus three pasta dishes and dessert. Served family style, one of the pastas will be a smoked scamorza buckwheat ricotta gnocchi with peas, shaved spring onions and butter.
At Lucques, the chef will also be doing antipasti—this one will have Portland-style salumi, marinated olives, pickled cherries and more. Semolina trofie (a short, twisted pasta) with pesto will be one of two pasta dishes served within the four-course meal, and dessert will be mascarpone, chocolate and espresso coupe with brutti ma buoni cookies.
Union Restaurant, 37 E Union St, Pasadena, 626- 795-5841. Brunch will have just one seating at 11:00 a.m. The price is $100 per person.
Lucques, 8474 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood, 323-655-6277. Sunday Supper goes between 5:00 p.m.-9:15 p.m. The price is $55 per person.
