Tar & Roses Chef Andrew Kirschner Shares His 5 Favorite Dishes in L.A.

From deli classics to perfectly prepared scallops, these are the Cali native’s go to eats

Chef Andrew Kirschner is deep-rooted in L.A.’s beachtown fine-dining scene. After working at Venice legend Joe’s in the early 2000s and bouncing around a few other kitchens, he finally opened his flagship rustic spot Tar & Roses in 2012, and the nautical sequel Santa Monica Yacht Club a few years after that. Now, Kirschner has earned his status as a Santa Monica culinary legend. When he’s not frying up smelt or turning and burning whole goats (yeah, you can get a whole goat at Tar & Roses) in the kitchen, what’s he eating? 1. Duck Liver Mousse at République

“Walter Manzke is the master of classic French cuisine in my opinion. I ate there recently and was blown away by the duck liver mouse.—the best I’ve ever had!”
