Do you torture yourself by consuming the hottest foods and beverages you can find? This weekend 40 of the best hot sauce makers in the country will be giving out samples at the third annual California Hot Sauce Expo, and that’s enough hot sauce to torment even the toughest tongue. It’s happening August 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the City National Grove of Anaheim (2200 East Katella Ave).
Those with especially heat-tolerant taste buds are invited to enter an assortment of eating competitions on the expo’s “Stage of Doom,” including the Chicken Death Wing Challenge, the Tacos from Hell Challenge, the Spicy Pizza of Doom Challenge. There’s even a chance to set the Guinness World Record for eating the most Carolina Reapers, one of the hottest peppers (see pic below) in the world. Last year a guy from New York ate 22 of them in sixty seconds, so you’ll have to beat that. Also on the schedule: a Booze & Infuse Cocktail Competition, Lucha wrestling, and a chihuahua beauty pageant with a $150 cash prize.
General admission tickets to the Hot Sauce Expo are $10. A craft brew ticket, which includes five drink tokens, a bottle of High River hot sauce, and an expo T-shirt, is $40. A limited number of “Ultimate Fiery VIP” tickets ($75) will be sold each day, and include access to a VIP area with complimentary cocktails, a BBQ buffet, and craft beers.
