Lo! October—a month that seems tailor made for imbibing. The weather’s cooling off (well, usually), it starts to get dark a little earlier (some people have qualms about boozing during the daylight hours), and there’s an international celebration dedicated to beer. This year, in addition to all the Oktoberfest fun, there are a few bonus events with a focus on the almighty alcohol. 

First up is Jonathan Gold’s second-annual Union Station Speakeasy Cocktail Party, presented by Cedd Moses’s 213 group. Taking place October 9, the Weekly’s grand homme du food turns his attention to cocktails, with drinks and nibbles from Seven Grand, First & Hope, Rivera, Comme Ca, Providence, Lazy Ox, Jar, Street and others. The $185 ticket price goes to benefit Zocalo Public Square. Youngin’s under 30 get a rate of $125. 

Next comes the second-annual L.A. Beer Week, with all sorts of tastings, cask tappings, and brewer lectures kicking off on October 7 and culminating with a mega tasting event at Union Station on October 17. The $40 entrance fee gets you unlimited 4-ounce pours from more than 70 craft breweries from around the world. To soak up all that beer? Food trucks, of course. And then I just have to mention our own Los Angeles Magazine From the Vine food and wine event on October 24, with chef and mixology demos, tastings from more than 70 restaurants and wineries, panels on everything from cheese to L.A. restaurant history to Top Chef Masters (a few of these moderated by yours truly). My favorite part, though, might be the location—the ridiculously bucolic Saddlerock Ranch and winery up in Malibu. Tickets are $95, and watch for specials, contests, and more!
