Well, someone finally did it. After saturating the season with all things pumpkin, America has finally found a way to incorporate pumpkin into that other great national obsession: burgers.
Local gourmet burger chain Umami Burger introduced the first (and only, we imagine) Pumpkin Spice Latté burger, an obvious homage to the seasonal Starbucks beverage of the same name.
What is on the burger? A beef patty topped with garlic aioli, squash tempura, spiced Mascarpone cheese, and coffee glaze stuffed between two Umami-branded burger buns. It debuts tomorrow, Wednesday Nov. 5, for the discount price of just $4 (the price of an actual P.S.L.) After that, it will be available for $12 at all Umami location except LAX for a limited time.
To be honest, the somewhat odd combination of fried squash, coffee and creamy spiced cheese doesn’t sound quite as terrible as you would imagine a Pumpkin Spice Latté burger would be—Umami is likely using the name for shock-stunt value. Given that the promotional materials include the line “don’t forget to throw on your Uggs first” we imagine they’re in on the joke too. Which is probably good, because if you’re seeking our an PSL burger for any reason besides irony, or the ability to gross out your friends, then it’s time to reevaluate how much you really love pumpkin spice.
