True love means not worrying about whether you have lard or barbecue sauce on your chin. So Barrel & Ashes, the new Studio City barbecue joint from chef/Frito pie expert Timothy Hollingsworth is going whole hog on Valentine’s Day.
The restaurant is barbecuing an entire Marin Sun Farms heritage hog for Saturday, which means you can grab somebody you’re not embarrassed to get messy with and enjoy a $48 dinner for two that includes pulled pork, smoked sausage, pancetta, herb-crusted loin, and smoked saddle. The meal also comes with porky sides like lard biscuits, pork and beans, and bacon-braised collard greens.
By the way, Hollingsworth used to be the chef de cuisine at The French Laundry, so you can also think of this as an affordable tasting menu for two as you and your date swoon over swine.
