Because everything that is a thing that people like requires a pop-up experience, California’s official state fruit is getting its very own in San Diego this summer. All things luscious, green, and guac-worthy will be celebrated at The Cado, an immersive “museum” open from June 16 to August 31.
Inside a space constructed out of 16 converted shipping containers, guests will find a “ripe room” with avocado-skin walls that will help you understand how to pick a perfect fruit, stations slinging artful avocado toasts and other treats, a shop of avocado items, and, of course, tons of Instagrammable avocado-themed photo ops. And while, yes, San Diego is a bit of a road trip, isn’t the perfect #AvocadoGram worth some car time?
The production is backed by the California Avocado Commission and timed to coincide with the peak of California’s avocado season. Advance tickets have just gone on sale, and must be purchased online in advance. Most tickets will set you back $27—that’s about 15 scoops of Chipotle guac which, you may have heard, costs extra—but families are encouraged to go on Wednesdays for special kid-friendly programming and lower ticket prices ($22 for adults, $12 for kids 12 and under).
