Before Bar 1886 opened inside of the Raymond in 2010, not many folks considered Pasadena a cocktail destination. But thanks to dynamic drink duo Aidan Demarest and Marcos Tello (of Liquid Assets cocktail consultation firm fame), the charming back bar within the restaurant easily enticed adult beverage enthusiasts far off the beaten bar hop path with its well-crafted, alcohol-fueled punches. Cut to now and 1886’s bartenders continue to raise the bar with some of the best beer and coffee cocktails I’ve ever tasted, as well as unique treats like the “strawberry paleta” cocktail popsicle.
This Saturday at 8 p.m., 1886 will celebrate its second anniversary with an indulgent night featuring wines and craft beer, with small plates by Executive Chef Tim Guiltinan and desserts by Pastry Chef Jeffrey Haines. Of course there will be cocktails as well, including a new fall cocktail by bartender Brady Weise, dubbed The American. It’s a malty Gimlet-style cocktail made with Kölsch-style beer, Kentucky bourbon, a homemade lime cordial, and lime juice.
