Last summer when we talked to FYF Festival founder Sean Carlson, he said that he couldn’t bring himself to up the $89 price tag for the two-day fest. “I don’t think it’s fair,” he said, touting a democratic celebration of music-listening and sweaty fun in the sun. This year, the price has jumped to $99 (with a limited number of $65 one-day passes available) – but with this lineup, we really can’t fault him.
Headlining are Yeah Yeah Yeahs and My Bloody Valentine, the latter of which will be playing their first show stateside since 2009. Joining them will be fellow indie success stories TV On The Radio, MGMT, Beach House, FLAG (Keith, Chuck, Dez, and Stephen performing the songs of Black Flag), Deerhunter, Devendra Banhart, Solange, and Yo La Tengo, along with many others.
The former “F*** Yeah Fest” has completed its transformation from playground for unknown artists to one of L.A.’s preeminent music festivals, but the quality of performers remains high, and it still showcases relative unknowns like Mac DeMarco, Ty Segall, and Thee Oh Sees. See the full lineup here.
FYF Fest will take place August 24-25 in L.A. State Historic Park. Tickets go on sale at 12 p.m. this Thursday, May 16. You might want to wait by your computer; we expect they’ll go fast.
