What To Stream This Weekend: ‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard,’ ‘Search Party,’ ‘The Tender Bar’

As 2022 enters full swing, there’s a ton of great films and TV shows to watch this weekend. Here are the best new titles to check out as we brace ourselves for tax season.

Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, 2021 (HBO) 

 

If you loved The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017), then this sequel film is a must-see. It follows a dynamic cast–Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek–in a bombastic action comedy that proves they’re back on another life-threatening mission. Hayek plays Sonia Kincaid, Samuel L. Jackson’s wife, whose prime goal through this adventure comedy is to be a mother in the most insane way possible. It’s worth seeing for the appearances by  Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas alone. 1/8 on HBO Max.

Hype House

 

Get ready for this hype-worthy show featuring some of the world’s most famous Tiktokers all brought together under one roof. Imagine ten 20 year olds who are stuck in a mansion filming content all day long and you’ve discovered Hype House. Part-incubator, part-social media collective, it’s more than just kids with money, but following the journey of a trans woman, a former homeless teen and a self-proclaimed “nerd trapped in a sexy boy body” As a “content house” its tackles social media trends, from canceling to self-growth, overnight fame and growing up on camera. It’s an emotional reality show that seems far more interesting than any Kardashian spinoff. 1/7 on Netflix.

Johnny Test (Season 2) 

 

This cartoon sitcom is gaining steam as a must-watch for kids on Netflix. This animated series created by Scott Fellows follows Johnny, a test subject for his twin sisters’ inventions and experiments, a duo who are self-proclaimed geniuses. From gadgets to superpowers, each experiment means that Johnny must fight villains and eventually, save the world. For the second season of Johnny Test, this Wild Brain reboot follows Johnny Test and his sidekick Dukey as they dive into a tirade of strange adventures, from VR-wizarding to real-world monster-slaying. 1/7 on Netflix.

Search Party, Max Original Season 5 Premiere 

 

Fans of Search Party will certainly be tuning in for the fifth and final season of the show, which follows Dory (Alia Shawkat) as she enters a business partnership with tech billionaire Tunnel Quinn (Jeff Goldblum). It follows her near-death experience, with the aim to reveal what she learned on the other side. The journey is being described as altruistic but terrifying. Goldblum plays a role that’s both intriguing and quirky. This cult hit shows how Dory is revolutionary, selling enlightenment. There’s also a cameo by comedian Kathy Griffin. 1/7 on HBO Max. 

The Tender Bar

 

If you’ve been looking forward to the next Ben Affleck and George Clooney collaboration, this is it. Affleck stars in this Clooney-directed film, which is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning author J.R. Moehringer’s memoir The Tender Bar, published in 2005. The film tells the story of J.R, a fatherless boy growing up alongside his uncle Charlie (Affleck), who works as a bartender. J.R. has the ambition to become a writer, but gets caught up in a complicated love story at college. It’s a heartfelt coming of age drama that will likely be a timeless hit. 1/7 on Prime.
