Weekend Playlist: Samm Henshaw, A$AP Rocky, Disclosure

Also, a new album from Detroit rapper Babyface Ray and alt-R&B singer Amber Mark unveils her debut album

This weekend’s playlist features a slew of new releases including Samm Henshaw’s debut album Untidy Soul, a collaborative effort from dance music masters Disclosure and Zedd, and the first single from Nigo’s forthcoming album, I Know NIGO.

Tank And The Bangas, “No ID”

Tank And The Bangas shared a new single called “No ID” today along with an accompanying music video that’s giving us all of the 70s disco feels. The funk-disco track will be featured on the New Orleans ensemble’s upcoming third studio album, Red Balloon, which is set to drop on May 13th via Verve Forecast. [artist info]

Samm Henshaw, Untidy Soul

I was fortunate enough to hear Samm Henshaw’s debut album, Untidy Soul, back in November when I was given the opportunity to DJ at one of his concerts at the infamous Peppermint Club. Now, I’ve DJ’d a lot of events and have attended countless listening parties throughout my career, but there was something about this album that’s stuck with me since hearing it that day. Lucky for me, the South London crooner—whose sound explores R&B and soul from various generations—has finally released the anticipated album. Untidy Soul features 16 tracks including a mix of previously released singles including “Chicken Wings” and “Grow, along with several new joints. Henshaw recently shared a beautiful performance on “The Late Late show with James Corden,” which is also worth a watch. Hopefully he’ll perform in Los Angeles again very soon. [artist info]

Nigo ft. A$AP Rocky, “Arya”

Just days after releasing a teaser for his upcoming album, I Know NIGO, the Japanese DJ, producer, and Bape founder has shared the first single from his first solo album in nearly two decades. Titled “Arya” and featuring A$AP Rocky, the track was initially previewed during Nigo’s Fall/Winter 2022 debut for KENZO. The new song also arrives with a music visual that feels like money and is a fashion aficionado’s dream. I Know NIGO—which includes guest appearances from Tyler, the Creator, Pharrell, Kid Cudi, Lil Uzi Vert, Push T, Fam-Lay, and more—is set to release on March 25. [artist info]

Toro y Moi, “Postman”

Earlier this week, Toro y Moi (aka Chaz Bear) announced his seventh studio album Mahal and gifted fans with two singles, “Postman” and “Magazine” featuring Salami Rose Joe Louis. Both tracks also arrive with dreamy visuals directed by Kid. Studio and Arlington Lowell respectively. The tracks are a glimpse into what is expected to be Toro y Moi’s most eclectic project yet. Disclosure & Zedd, “You’ve Got To Let Go If You Want To Be Free”

House music superstars, Disclosure, have teamed up with EDM artist-producer Zedd on a new bubbly dance track titled “You’ve Got To Let Go If You Want To Be Free.” For many, this dancefloor ready song is a dream collaboration. [artist info]

Babyface Ray, FACE

The Detroit rapper has released his anticipated album FACE. The 20-track project includes guest appearances from fellow Detroit emcee 42 Dugg (“Let Me Down”), Wiz Khalifa (“Kush & Codeine”), G Herbo (“Blood Sweat & Tears”), and Pusha T and Landstrip Chip (“Dancing With The Devil”). [artist info]

Amber Mark, Three Dimensions Deep

Amber Marks’ debut album Three Dimensions Deep has been in the works for a few years now. It’s the alt-R&B singer’s first full-length offering since her 2018 Conexão EP, which was when I became hip to her music. Marks’ new album spans one hour and includes 17 tracks. The Tennessee-born, New York-based artist has also shared a visual for one of the album’s leading singles, “Bliss.” [artist info]

Other Worthy Mentions: Angel + Dren, LNDFK, and Keb’ Mob’

Compton native Keb’ Mo’, who now lives in Nashville, released a new single called “Good to Be (Home Again)” that pays homage to his hometown. Also, twin sisters and R&B duo, Angel + Dren, shared a visual for their latest offering “Slow Down,” which serves as a beautiful reminder to remain present and not to allow obstacles stop you from fulfilling your dreams. Finally, ahead of her debut album release in February, singer-songwriter LNDFK has released a new single called “Ku,” which takes listeners on a sonic journey through jazz, future soul, and experimental electronic sounds.
