Weekend Playlist: New Music From Katy Perry, Alesso, and Buddy

This weekend’s playlist includes a new track from Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars and Anderson. Paak), a collaboration from L.A. artists Buddy and Blxst, and a remix from Katy Perry and Alesso.

Vince Staples ft. Mustard “Magic”

Long Beach rapper Vince Staples has teamed up with L.A. producer and DJ, Mustard, for a new track titled “Magic.” Produced by Lewis Hughes, Mustard, Nick “Unknown Nick” Audino, and My Best Friend Jacob, it’s the first single from Staples’ upcoming album Ramona Park Broke My Heart, which is due out in April via Blacksmith Recordings and Motown Records. Katy Perry and Alesso, When I’m Gone (VIP Remix)

Katy Perry and Alesso have unveiled an even more energetic and upbeat version of their January single “When I’m Gone.” Alesso’s edit takes listeners to the club or the front row of their favorite electronic festival. The remix arrives just weeks after the duo performed original version with a group of dancing mushrooms on Saturday Night Live. [artist info]

Buddy ft. Blxst, “Wait Too Long” 

Another exciting L.A. collaboration comes from Buddy and Blxst who released a single called “Wait Too Long.” The R&B-influenced song arrives with an accompanying visual by directed by Obsidian, which sees Buddy dealing with the aftermath of a wild party he had the night before. Buddy is slated to release his second album, Super Ghetto, on March 25. [artist info]

Silk Sonic, “Love’s Train” (Con Funk Shun Cover)

Just days after Con Funk Shun graced the stage at the Taste of Inglewood during Super Bowl weekend in L.A., singing duo, Silk Sonic, released a cover of one of their tracks. Bruno Mars and Anderson. Paak, who make up Silk Sonic, shared the cover of Con Funk Shun’s 1982 song “Love’s Train” on Valentine’s Day.

“This is one of Silk Sonic’s favorite songs originally recorded by the group Con Funk Shun,” Mars wrote on Instagram about the release. “Every time @anderson._paak and I get behind instruments we play this. We love this song so much we wanted to sing it for y’all.”

Baby Tate, “What’s Love”

The multi talented musician from Atlanta released two tracks on Friday including a smooth R&B joint called “What’s Love” and the trap-influenced “S.H.O. (Sl*t Him Out).” Earlier this week, Baby Tate announced that she will be supporting Charli XCX on tour this spring. [artist info]

Nigo and Kid Cudi, “Want It Bad” 

DJ and Bape founder, Nigo, teamed up Kid Cudi on “Want It Bad.” Produced by Pharrell, it is the second single from Nigo’s upcoming project, I Know Nigo. [artist info]

Tame Impala, “The Boat I Row” 

Tame Impala unveiled their deluxe box set edition of The Slow Rush, which arrives with a previously unreleased B-side track called “The Boat I Row.” [artist info]

Lucky Daye ft. Lil Durk, “NWA”

Not only did six-time Grammy nominee, Lucky Daye, share a new single this week, he also announced the release date for his anticipated album, Candydrip, due out on March 10. “NWA,” which features Chicago emcee Lil Durk, is the third and final single from the upcoming album. [artist info]

Other Worthy Mentions: Jack Harlow, Lion Babe, and Amaarae

New York City duo, Lion Babe, teamed up with hip-hop icon, Busta Rhymes, for an irresistible dance single titled “Harder.” Also, Amaarae shared a luxurious visual for her anthem, “Sad Girlz Luv Money,” featuring Kali Uchis and Moliy, and Louisville rapper Jack Harlow dropped a visual for his latest single “Nail Tech.”
