TONIGHT: Blonde Redhead

The ever evolving New York noise pop trio comes to L.A. tonight

Back when “alternative” was the de rigueur adjective for ‘90s bands, this New York noise pop trio conferred instant street cred on its fans. These days Blonde Redhead leans toward dreamy dance rock but the lithe vocals of Kazu Makino are as hypnotizing as ever.

The band was a mainstay for fans of 120 Minutes, MTV’s late-night music show, providing a grungey, shoe-gazey sound that endured into the early 2000s. They’ve evolved into a band that plays with subtle electronic flourishes, adding a dark, dancey Depeche Mode-ish shadow that adds an even moodier texture to their infectious rhythms.
