It’s been a rough few months for the Walk of Fame, what with people defacing, and urinating on, and sledgehammering Donald Trump’s star. But this is next level. On Tuesday morning, a Prius appeared to have dropped from the sky and smashed through the sidewalk’s black terrazzo tiles.
If you’re thinking, “This has to be a publicity stunt designed to attract the attention of media outlets that will cover it and provide free advertisement,” you’re on the right track. The staged freak accident is promotion for Amazon’s new auto-centric show The Grand Tour, starring former Top Gear guys Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May.
The Grand Tour is basically just Top Gear, only different enough from Top Gear to not be sued for infringing on intellectual property rights. There will be expensive cars, exotic locations, and mayhem—but no Star in a Reasonably Priced Car, no Stig, and no description of the African nation of Namibia as “beautiful” (which was apparently so Top Gear that it had to be banned from the new show). The Grand Tour drops on Amazon Prime on Friday at 12:01 a.m. England time (which is Thursday at 4:01 p.m. for Americans because that’s how time zones work).
