The To-Do List: February 2016’s Most Awesome Media Digestibles

The Coen brothers’ Hail Caesar! is at the top of our list

Old Hollywood Easter eggs abound in the Coen brothers’ Hail, Caesar! (February 5). Josh Brolin is studio fixer Eddie Mannix; Scarlett Johansson channels aqua-musical star Esther Williams. Is that Gene Kelly in a sailor suit? Nope, just Channing Tatum.

Drinking from a Salt Pond, the sophomore effort from K-Town band Run River North, is a sonic evolution from last year’s self-titled debut (February 26). Feistier lyrics render them a little less Of Monsters and Men and a little more Cold War Kids.

James Franco put his poetry on hold to appear in Hulu’s 11.22.63, J.J. Abrams’s take on Stephen King’s hit novel of the same name (February 15). Franco plays a teacher who time-travels to 1963 to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Pass the time until Star Trek’s 2017 return to television with William Shatner’s memoir Leonard: My Fifty-Year Friendship With a Remarkable Man (February 16). Shatner shares anecdotes and memories of a life-changing relationship with Leonard Nimoy, who died a year ago this month.
