On Wednesday, LAMag sent intrepid reporter Ben Kawaller to Hollywood’s Carrera Cafe, the exterior of which is currently hosting an eye-catching mural urging Television Academy voters to consider the Emmy-nominated latest season of RuPaul’s Drag Race when casting their ballots for this year’s awards.
The vibrant mural by artist Richard Henderson includes an expertly rendered pop art–inspired array of Season 14’s queens—including Lady Camden, Bosco, Kerri Colby, June Jambalaya, Jasmine Kennedie, and DeJa Skye. These talented divas were on hand in Hollywood at the unveiling and gracious enough to speak with LAMag about the glamorous lives of drag stars and what it was like to work on the smash hit series.
And Angelenos, take note: Throughout August, Carrera Cafe will have special RuPaul’s Drag Race coffee topper promotions, along with special coffee cup sleeves for customers to enjoy. And if you post your visit to Instagram using the hashtag #DragRaceFYCMural and tagging @RuPaulsDragRace and @lalgbtcenter, VH1 will make a donation to the Los Angeles LGBT Center. So, if you love a queer person, you simply have no choice but to get to Carrera Cafe ASAP and share it with four followers.
