As if launching a Southern California-wide arts initiative wasn’t enough, the J. Paul Getty museum and the Getty Research Institute have just acquired more than seventy photographs by Ed Ruscha as well as his “Streets of Los Angeles” archive, which includes the photographic and production materials from his 1966 book Every Building on the Sunset Strip, and more.

A selection of the acquired photographs and archives will go on view in two Getty Museum exhibitions scheduled for spring 2013, Los Angeles Architecture: 1940-1990 and In Focus: Ed Ruscha.

Ruscha’s work was recently on display locally at the Hammer Museum in the exhibit “Ed Ruscha: On the Road,” which focused on works dealing with text from the Jack Kerouac novel On the Road
