Studio Tour: Artist Yoskay Yamamoto’s North Hollywood Garage Wonderland

Yoskay Yamamoto’s work is featured at the JANM’s Giant Robot Biennale

If you’ve had a chance to check out the Giant Robot Biennale at the Japanese American National Museum, you know that the exhibit in fact has nothing to do with robots. Rather, the show is a collection of pieces curated by Eric Nakamura, owner of the West L.A. pop culture shop Giant Robot.

Among the artists featured in the JANM show is Yoskay Yamamoto, a 34-year-old painter, sculptor and installation artist whose work includes murals, wooden toy sculptures, and delicate paintings in pastels, soothing blues and burning reds. Yamamoto works out of his garage-cum-studio in North Hollywood, and he opened up the door to give us a peek at what he’s working on now, and how the magic happens.
